THE DAVISSA STORY
The Davissa Ranch is the home of The Davissa Horse Refuge, a not-for-profit 501c horse refuge that specializes in care and management of retired working horses. If you have ever been blessed to have a relationship with a horse you know what deeply soulful, caring, empathetic and wise creatures they are. We are committed to allowing these wonderful animals the opportunity to live out their lives in peace and love. We want them to be able to simply be a horse and, in doing that, they bring healing, grace and peace to all who meet them. We do this through workshops and ranch tours that allow others to find the beautiful spirit that is unique to the horse. We believe in educating others about this amazing, hard, and rewarding life while honoring the homesteading ranch spirit and giving hope, love, and peace to both people and horses.
The Davissa Ranch is located just a few miles northwest of Cheyenne, WY. The ranch was part of a much larger original homestead ranch settled over a century ago. In March of 2020, David and Melissa Wilson purchased the ranch and thus was born the Davissa. Just as with their 25+ years of marriage, the ranch is a commitment and partnership. So, the name is a blending of David and Melissa = Davissa.
The first thing you'll notice when you come to the Davissa is the peace, tranquility, and quiet that surrounds the ranch. This peace is so powerful that you can feel it when you set foot on the land. We know it is most certainly one of the greatest gifts of the ranch. We believe the Davissa was given to us for a greater purpose and that purpose involves bringing peace, love, and support to all of God's creatures including all the animals who find their home on the Davissa. We believe the ranch is about grace, thus we feel led to operate the ranch with, hard work, faith and the generous support of folks just like you. To that end, you may also see us at local craft and art fairs, farmers markets and such where we sell fresh baked goods, art and other items to help support our work here.
All Creatures Great and Small
The hard work that is a daily part of this ranch is second only to the love for this life. A huge part of that love is the animals entrusted to us. Our commitment to those animals is a core value for us and we strive to share our love and our experience in caring for and managing those animals with others.
